A Word from Moira Cornell:
"Love
me... love my dogs...."
Before saying anything about myself, I have to thank
Peggy Albertson for her years of guidance regarding the Australian Shepherd breed in
general and specifically the Red Banks lines. Peggy has been my mentor from the beginning
of my almost two-decade-long career in dog training. Her knowledge and insight has
been immeasurable and I am ever-grateful for her guidance and friendship.
I first met Peggy and her late husband, George, through
the late Ramblewood's Tia of Red Banks, CDX, FDCH, OA, NAJ.
A beautiful and highly intelligent dog with great drive and a loving personality,
Tia enriched our lives for nearly 15 years and is deeply missed.
After Tia came Riot, OTCH Red Banks Fire
City, UDX, MX, AXJ. The dog of my dreams, Riot is one of the most intelligent
dogs I have ever campaigned. Riot earned No. 1 ASCA Obedience Dog in Super Dog and Utility, and
No. 4 Open Dog. He has also competed in the prestigious Gaines Cycle events, winning fifth
place in the Novice Western
Division. Like Tia, he graced our lives for nearly 15 years. We
miss him terribly.
Next
came the unforgettable Tooter, AKC/ASCA
Alt. Ch. Red Banks Iron Horse, AKC/ASCA UD, OA, NAJ, who helped me to achieve my
original set of training goals. While a product of the Red Banks lines, Tooter was bred by
Terry and Freddie Richards of Ironhorse Australian Shepherds. He was the work
horse of my group -- tough, strong, and the most stable dog I have ever encountered, fully
living up to the Ironhorse name. Tooter was a multiple Best of Breed group
winner as well as HIT, earned several scores of199.5 in Novice and Open and even went High In Trial at the 2002 ASCA Nationals!
Tragically, after 10 wonderful years with this amazing dog, he was diagnosed
with kidney cancer and we lost him very quickly. He was my constant
companion and savvy business partner and a wonderful agility and Junior Handling
dog for Adam. We are devastated and miss him more than words can
adequately convey.
The
matriarch of our
current pack is Scooter, ASCA Alt. Ch. Crosspaws Boot Scootin' Boogie, NA,
NAJ, JS-N, AS-N. Scooter is also from the Red Banks lines,
but was bred by Larry Farren
of Cross Paws Australian Shepherds. She is a daughter of my unforgettable Tooter
and she has inherited many of his wonderful qualities. A ball-crazy, big-hearted
girl, Scooter loves and excels in
agility and is also AKC-pointed with two Best of Opposite Sex wins. She is my
foundation bitch and has whelped two wonderful litters of Gulfstream Australian
Shepherds.
Out
of Scooter's first litter, we kept Roxy,
AKC & ASCA Ch. Gulfstream's I've Got Game,
ASCA-CD. Roxy earned her ASCA-CD at the 2007 ASCA Nationals, where she
won her large Novice B class of 46 dogs, was in a tie for High in Trial and was High
Scoring Champion! She is a
joy to work with in any venue and greatly reminds us of our beloved "Tooter".
Our resident
beefcake is Hemi, AKC & ASCA Ch. Wyndstar Street Legal, bred
by Kerry Kirtley. He's a big-boned, beautifully put together dog who loves
to show and finished both Championships easily, with limited showing. He
finished his ASCA Championshp at 15-months with three 5-point Majors and also
went five-for-five with Majors in AKC! We're quite proud of our handsome
boy!
All of the above dogs have helped make me the trainer I am today. They have
taught me as much, if not more than I have taught them.
As the saying goes, "May I always be the kind of person my dogs think I am."
