Please Note New Email Address: GulfstreamAussie@aol.com. Welcome to Gulfstream Australian Shepherds... "There is a river in the ocean. In the severest droughts it never fails, and in the mightiest floods it never overflows; its banks and its bottom are of cold water, while its current is of warm; the Gulf of Mexico is its fountain, and its mouth is the Arctic Sea. It is the Gulf Stream. There is in the world no other such majestic flow of waters." -- Oceanographer Matthew Maury, 1855
Click here to see previous litters. All Gulfstream litters are whelped in the house and raised underfoot. Before leaving for their new homes, the puppies will be exposed to many new things, including nail trimming, bathing and grooming, crate training, and riding in the car. House training will be started as well. Most of the dogs produced at Gulfstream are extremely high drive. They are not couch potatoes! Our goal is to place our puppies in active, committed homes that are prepared to provide them with the mental and physical exercise that they need to lead happy, healthy lives. Our dogs need jobs! Dogs left to become self-employed in your backyard will quickly develop behavior problems. If you are considering a Gulfstream puppy, we ask that you give us an idea of what you're looking for in an Australian Shepherd. Please understand that we do not place dogs strictly by color preference. We understand that some people prefer certain colors and/or markings, but structure, movement and temperament must be looked at first and foremost. We believe that coat color is merely paint and in the end, personality, health and overall structure must come first when selecting a dog. Although evaluations are ongoing, our final evaluations of our puppies is done between seven and eight weeks of age. At this time we check bite, structure, movement, temperament and health clearances and make our recommendations regarding which pup will best meet your expectations. All Gulfstream puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and must be surgically altered before their first birthday. Should you become interested in showing your puppy in the breed ring, please contact me for an evaluation prior to having your puppy spayed or neutered. All Gulfstream puppies are required to enroll in a puppy and basic obedience class. Additional obedience, agility or show handling classes are highly recommended. Because litters are not made-to-order, we accept only a limited number of deposits to avoid disappointment. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a spot on our breeding list. Detailed puppy packages are available to provide additional information regarding upcoming breedings, and include hip and eye clearances, pedigrees and pictures of the sire and dam. Remember: The decision to add a new puppy to your home should not be taken lightly. A dog is a companion that will be in your life for 12-15 years. When selecting a puppy, please be sure to do lots of research and ask lots of questions - not just of us at Gulfstream, but of other breed fanciers as well. We appreciate your interest in Gulfstream Australian Shepherds and are happy to answer any questions you may have. -- Moira Cornell, Gulfstream Australian Shepherds (818) 601-DOGS
